Description:
这片美丽的湖水据说是湿婆神的妻子娑提(Sati)的一只绿色眼睛(naini在梵文中是眼睛的意思)。当初得知父亲没有邀请湿婆神来参加家族献祭时，娑提自焚以示抗议，湿婆神用双臂托着娑提烧成黑灰的遗体，跳起了宇宙之舞，并扬言要摧毁世界。为了阻止湿婆神的宇宙之舞，毗湿奴神(Vishu)把娑提的尸体劈成一块一块地洒在印度各地。而如今矗立在奈尼湖北端的奈纳女神庙(Naina Devi Temple)，其庙址就是据说当时娑提一只眼睛掉落的地方。
